Phil and Diane Koury
Hunterdon County residents Philip and Diane Koury are the Owner/Operators of McDonald's Restaurants in Clinton, Flemington, Washington and Wal*Mart in Clinton, New Jersey. Becoming McDonald's Franchisees in 1991, was a dream-come-true for Phil and Diane; both who began their respective careers as McDonald's crew persons in Brooklyn and Long Island.
In 1971, Philip began learning the ropes at his father's McDonald's Restaurant in Brooklyn and remained active in the business beyond college. A graduate of NYU with a degree in Accounting, Phil spent five years in corporate America as an Accountant with Ernst and Whinney before re-joining his father full-time in the Restaurant Business in 1987. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House in Long Branch.
As a teenage student on Long Island, Diane began her career in the quick service business. In 1980, she moved to New Jersey to accept a position with the McDonald's Corporation, then eventually advanced to the title of McDonald's Area Supervisor.
Since 1996, Diane has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. In this capacity she has assisted organizations that benefit children by championing the sponsorship of over $100 thousand in grants for local organizations such as The Hunterdon Art Museum, Hunterdon Prevention Resource, Hunterdon Medical Center, The Center for Educational Advancement, Frances Demares School, Patrick McGaheran School, Immaculate Conception School in Clinton and Women's Crisis Center in Flemington.
They attribute much of their success to the dedication of the over 200 employees who make working at McDonald's look easy. McDonald's core curriculum provides a structured pathway from crew to mid-management and beyond. Each step includes specific learning objectives, training materials, and evaluation tools, all of which are translated and adapted to reflect local cultures and operations standards.
Like Phil and Diane, each of their dedicated management team members are McDonald's Hamburger University (HU) trained. HU has seven campuses around the world and provides course materials in 28 languages. One indicator of the quality and content of HU courses is the fact that they are recommended for academic credit or otherwise officially recognized by various national organizations, major universities, and other training institutions.
